MK2 Jaguar Restoration & 'Modernisaton'

Project Undertaken 15th July 2011

First job on Stirling's Jag is to strip it to a 'shell, and remove the wings. We have a second donor car which has slightly better wings (particularly around the front end), so these are removed and both sets blasted to determine what is salvageable!

A blast of the bodyshell reveals it to be a little bit poorly! Quite amazing it had a current MOT when it arrived here!

The first area to receive attention is the front chassis rails. We need to get this area solid enough to support the shell on the spit while we work on the rest! The front ends of the rails are totally refabricated, including the front subframe mounts. A new wing-mount crossmember is then fitted along with the two diagonal braces.

Next, the complete offside sill is tackled. First we fabricate a new inner sill and weld it in place before reconstructing the lower edge of the 'a' panel and then fitting the new outer sill. We then make up a new floor section - for this we have made some new dies for the Pullmax to form the ribs that the original floor sections have.

In the meantime we have also stripped down the engine/gearbox donor - a 3.6 Manual Jaguar XJ40.
